Best Practice: Designing Your Partner Portal Home Page

The portal home page is the main landing page for your partners as they enter the portal. While your partners may only spend a few seconds on the home page, it should be visually appealing and well organized. Consider these three things in relation to your overall strategy when designing the home page:

  • What are you trying to communicate?
  • How will this page help my partners?
  • Is this page visually appealing and easy to navigate?

What is the Main Objective for Your Home Page?

Partners want to locate information quickly to better sell your products and services. Providing easy access to information is key. What are the most important things you want your partners to know? Consider:

  • A welcome to the partner
  • Links to the latest resources available in the collateral library
  • Tips and tricks to benefit the partner
  • Partner-specific news
  • Promotions and MDF information
  • Links to key locations in the portal (partner registration, deal registration)

Once you determine what to include, decide how you will organize the information. You can organize the information on custom pages using two levels of navigation. You will be using easy drag-and-drop methods using our prebuilt pages and widgets. Remember that most people read left to right, and any content with an image will capture the partner's attention first.

Updating your pages frequently will encourage your partners to return and visit often. You can set the beginning and expiration dates for content when it is created.

Make sure to leave white space so that the page does not become cluttered and overwhelming.

You can use partner groups to control the content seen by partners and not others. Partners can view material important to them and avoid scrolling through content that does not apply to them.

What’s in it for the Partner?

A world-class partner experience. Partners will have quick access to the information you want them to see first with a portal that you design to optimize your programs.

Sections you want to be sure your partners have access to are:

Recruitment & On-boarding
  • Guided Onboarding
  • Training/Certification
  • Communications
Partner Demand and Pipeline
  • Lead Registration
  • Opportunity Management
  • Deal Registration
  • Pricebook & Product Catalog Integration
  • Partner Locator
Channel Marketing and Spend
  • Contacts
  • Marketing Campaigns
  • Collateral Resources
  • Marketing Development Funds
  • Social Media
  • Supplier Marketplace
  • Marketplace Connector
  • Web Plugins
Marketing Analysis
  • Analysis

Navigation is key to the success of your home page. You can emphasize each section with images and quick links. It is important that your partners have more than one way to access your content.

Is the Page Visually Appealing?

Remember, your partners are going to be on the home page briefly, so it must be visually appealing. You can use the editor to create content, add dynamic content, add links, and design the layout of the page. If you prefer using HTML, the editor allows you to make changes via HTML. Be sure the company logo and footer information are on each page to make partners recognize them as part of your company's overall strategy.

Think of your portal home page as the welcome mat to your channel program. It’s the place where your partners will engage with your content and the information you provide. Keep the design simple to provide the best partner experience.
