Overview
Custom Fields are custom data items, particular to your organization, that you collect from your partners. They supplement the default information that Unifyr One collects as part of its standard business processes. Certain common fields, for example, user language selection, can be included as custom fields to facilitate updating the available options. You may choose to make custom fields visible as an internal-only field via Unifyr One Admin, editable by partners via the partner portal, or both.
You can also add custom fields to forms. For more information, see Form Configuration.
There are six available categories for Custom Fields. Creating Custom Fields in each of these categories and its subcategories determines where these fields are applied.
-
Partner User - Appear in the User Profile in the Unifyr One Admin Partner Explorer and can be added to the Create User/Edit User forms for the partner portal. You can also create custom forms that include these fields to request or log custom information about your partners' users. For more information, see Custom Forms.
You can add placeholders (merge tags) to dynamically generate the value of custom Partner User fields when creating/editing Emails, Popups, Custom Pages, and the partner portal footer.
-
Partner - Appear on the Partner Registration form, in the partner’s Company Profile, or in the Invitation to join the partner portal. You can also create custom forms that include these fields to request or log custom information about your partners. For more information, see Custom Forms.
Custom Partner fields can be used in other areas too:
- Use your custom Partner fields to create unique experiences for your partners - include them in Partner Groups to segment access to site views, onboarding plans, events, content, etc. For more information, see About Partner Groups.
- You can also include custom partner fields for filtering in a Partner Locator (if your system supports Locators). For more information, see About Partner Locators.
- You can add placeholders (merge tags) to dynamically generate the value of custom Partner fields when creating/editing Emails, Popups, Custom Pages, and the partner portal footer.
- Lead - Are applied in the Lead Registration process. Custom Lead Fields are broken down into these subcategories: Contact, Register, Accept, Reject, Feedback, and Unqualified/Invalid.
- Deal - Are applied to the Deal Registration process. Custom Deal Fields are broken down into three subcategories: Deal Types, Deal Fields, and Deal Stages.
- Account - Used to collect and share additional information about End Customer Accounts (Managed Accounts) for deals.
- Deal Line Item - Used to collect additional information when suppliers/partners add line items to Deals.
- MDF - Appear on the Claims and Pre-Approval forms.
- Custom Objects - You may see this option if your system supports custom information types. For information on managing fields for a custom object, see Custom Objects.
For example, you can create Custom Partner Fields to capture specific metadata, such as products that your partners may offer. When partner accounts are created, that Custom Partner Field can be used to capture this metadata. You can then use that information when creating a product-specific Partner Group and filter activities to partners that offer those products. You should work with your Customer Success Manager to define the fields that will work best to meet your channel requirements.
Unifyr One provides the option to translate your Custom Fields into multiple languages. For more information, see Translate a Custom Field.

Data validation is available for fields of type Text or Number.
- Navigate to > Settings > Forms & Fields.
- Select the type of custom field you want to edit, for example Deal.
- Click the custom field to which you want to add data validation, to open it for edit.
- In Data Validation, select the data rule that you want to apply to the field:
-
Email (field of type Text) - The value entered into this field must be an email address
A portal user will see the message Please enter a valid email address if they complete the field with data that isn't an email address:
You can also specify that a portal user must not enter their own email address, or one from their own company domain, into the field. Enable the Block user's own email address or Block user's own email domain settings, as required.
The validation will be enforced in the partner portal when the custom field is completed manually, and when it's included in contact and lead imports.
-
Length (field of type Text) - The value entered into this field must be between x and y characters in length (specify the range for a variable length, or enter the same number for both fields to specify a static length)
For example:
between 10 and 15 characters - value can be any length from 10 to 15 characters
or
between 10 and 10 characters - value must be 10 characters long
A portal user will see the message Please enter a value between x and y characters if they complete the field with a value that isn't the required length:
-
Value (field of type Number)- The value entered into this field must fall within a specified range (specify the range, or enter the same number for both fields to specify a static number)
For example:
between 1 and 50 - value can be between 1 and 50
or
between 1 and 1 - value must be 1
A portal user will see the message Please enter a value between x and y if they complete the field with a value that's outside the required range:
-
URL (field of type Text) - The value entered into this field must be in URL format
A portal user will see the message This must be a valid url if they complete the field with data that doesn't appear to be a URL:
Data validation rules for URLs:
- http:// or https:// are optional (https://x.com and x.com are both valid)
- ? (query) or # (identifier) are permitted in the URL (for example https://www.google.com/search?q=unifyr)
- The domain part of the URL (e.g. the x in x.com) must be between 1 and 256 characters
- The TLD part of the URL (the com in x.com) must be between 2 and 63 characters
-
Add a Relationship between Custom Fields
You can create a relationship between custom fields so that options presented in one field/menu can be filtered based on the value selected in a previous field or menu.
For example, you might want a dependency in your Partner Registration form between Product Area and Products Offered, where the Products Offered field is automatically populated with a list of products that depends on the value a user selects for the Product Area field:
-
Product Area = Office Supplies
Products Offered = Paper Supplies, Furniture and Cabinets, Office Decor
-
Product Area = Cloud Services
Products Offered = File Hosting, Domain Management, Database Services, Laptops and Hardware
-
Product Area = Retail Management
Products Offered = Inventory Tracking Services, Risk Management Analysis, Customer Support Services
You create a mapping between the controlling field and its dependent field(s) in Unifyr One Admin. Relationships can be between any custom fields, provided they are of any of these types: Select, Multiselect, Checkbox, and Radio.
Creating a relationship between fields is a two-step process:
- Add a controlling/dependent relationship between the two fields
- Configure the mapping between values of the two fields
When a field with a relationship is added to a form, both controlling and dependent fields are added together, next to each other in the form. They’ll also be removed together, when you choose to remove the controlling field. You can remove dependent fields individually. For information about adding fields to forms, see How to Add/Remove a Field in a Form.
To create a Field Relationship:
- Navigate to > Settings > Forms & Fields.
- Select the required field category, e.g. Partner or Deal.
- Go to the Field Relationships tab in the left sidebar.
- Click Create. The Create Field Relationship window opens.
-
Complete the information to add a relationship between the two fields:
- Controlling Field - select the field whose values decide the value of another field - for the example, Product Area
- Dependent Field - select the field whose values are filtered based on the value of its controlling field - for the example, Products Offered
The fields shown in each list are those of type Select, Multiselect, Checkbox, and Radio that you have available.
- Click Next. The Create Field Relationship matrix opens.
-
Specify the values of the dependent field that should display when a user selects each value of the controlling field. Click the cells in the matrix to select them - a green cell indicates that a value will be shown.
In the example below, these fields will be used:
- If Product Area = Office Supplies, show Products Offered = Paper Supplies, Furniture and Cabinets, Office Decor
- If Product Area = Cloud Services, show Products Offered = File Hosting, Domain Management, Database Services, Laptops and Hardware
- If Product Area = Retail Management, show Products Offered = Inventory Tracking Services, Risk Management Analysis, Customer Support Services
Note: The Product Area field is set up with the possible values Office Supplies, Cloud Services, and Retail Management.
The Products Offered field is set up with the possible values Paper Supplies, Furniture and Cabinets, Office Decor, File Hosting, Domain Management, Database Services, Laptops and Hardware, Inventory Tracking Services, Risk Management Analysis, and Customer Support Services.
-
Click Save. The relationship between the two fields is shown in the Field Relationships list.
When a field with a relationship is added to a form, both controlling and dependent fields are added together, next to each other in the form. They’re removed together too, if you choose to remove the controlling field.
Dependent fields can be removed individually, but can’t be added without their controlling field.
Note: Dependent fields can’t have their own read-only or display conditions - they inherit the settings given for the dependent field.
